Applicable Products: CertMaster Learn
Note: The following requires that you have an LMS integration with CompTIA already configured in your LMS. If you are interested in setting this up, please contact your Sales representative, who can get you in touch with our integration team. For more info on the configuration process, see our other articles on LMS integration.
Due to a technical conflict between CompTIA and Blackboard’s LTI implementation, implementing a CertMaster Learn integration works in a slightly less intuitive way than with other LMSes. It’s broken up into two parts: 1) Setting up a single LTI link that launches students into our platform, and 2) Optionally setting up a student-hidden section that will act as a conatiner for Blackboard gradebook endpoints to catch grades from graded assets in our platform. See Part 3 for more info.
Part 1: Create Landing Page link in Blackboard Learn
-
Navigate to your course, and then to the Content page.
-
Mouse over Build Content at the top, and select CertMaster Learn <Certification Name> Landing Page.
-
Fill out the settings as desired, and click Submit at the bottom.
Part 2: Create Connection to the Blackboard Gradebook (OPTIONAL)
-
Mouse over Build Content at the top, and under the New Page section, select Content Folder.
-
Rename the folder something like ‘CertMaster Learn Gradebook Endpoints’, and click it to enter the folder.
-
Mouse over Build Content at the top, and select CertMaster Learn <Certification Name> Gradebook Connector. After a few seconds, the CertMaster Learn Content Selector will appear.
-
Check each graded item that you’d like to create a gradebook connection to. Note that for this to function properly, you may only select items from the Practice Questions, Performance-based Questions, or Assessment categories of the content selector. Items from the Lessons and Study Tasks sections will NOT create a connection to the Blackboard Gradebook. A link for each item will appear in the folder. However, please read the following note:
Creating these links also created columns in the Blackboard Gradebook for the course, which are now connected to any student activity in our platform. As long as a student enters CertMaster Learn through the Landing Page link, any time they complete one of the linked activities, their grade will be sent to the Blackboard Gradebook within seconds. However, note that due to the aforementioned technical conflict between our platform and Blackboard, links created by the Gradebook Connector tool will NOT send users to the content listed when clicked. If a user clicks one of these links, an error will be thrown. Only the Landing Page link created in Part 1 will successfully log the student into the CertMaster Learn platform.
As such, we recommend that you name this folder something that will make it clear to students that it is not intended for their use. You also have the option of hiding the folder by using the ‘Make Unavailable’ option in Blackboard, but this will also hide grades from the students.
