Problem:
Students may encounter an error when launching a CertMaster integration link to a custom exam via their school portal. This typically occurs when the student has used all their scheduled attempts. Unless an exam schedule is configured in the CertMaster interface before the student's first attempt, the default setting allows only a single attempt.
Solution:
To permit additional attempts, instructors need to schedule the exam within the CertMaster interface. Follow these steps:
-
Log into CertMaster
As the instructor, access your CertMaster account. You can do this by clicking on any non-exam CertMaster integration link to launch a module or assignment, then clicking the home icon. -
Select Your Class
Click on the name of your class. -
Access Custom Exams
Navigate to the Custom Exams tab under the class. -
Schedule the Exam
Click the three stacked dots to the right of the exam in question and select Schedule Exam. -
Select Students
Check the boxes next to the names of the students for whom you want to adjust the number of attempts. -
Add Custom Schedule
Click Actions and then select Add Custom Schedule. -
Set Availability
Choose your desired start and end dates for when students can access the exam. -
Adjust Attempts
Increase the number in the Attempts box to the total number of attempts you wish to allow (e.g., change from 1 to 2 for two attempts). -
Save Changes
Click Save, then click Done.
After completing these steps, students can use their LMS integration links to access the custom exam and utilize the additional attempts.
Preventive Tip:
To avoid this issue in the future, schedule exams with the desired number of attempts before students access them for the first time.
