Using LMS Integration to place CertMaster Practice (CMP) content into D2L Brightspace (LTI 1.1)

Create CertMaster Practice (CMP) links in a Brightspace Course

1. Navigate to your course, and then to the Content tab.

2. Click Existing Activities and select External Learning Tools.

3. Using the search bar in the upper right, search for CMP. Select the Learner Dashboard tool for the desired certification content to place a link into the course for it.

4. Repeat steps 2-3 for the Instructor Dashboard and Practice Test tools.

Configuring CertMaster Practice (CMP) links in a Brightspace Course

1. Learner Dashboard: No action needed.

2. Instructor Dashboard: Click the arrow to the right of the link and select Hide from Users so that it’s only visible to Instructors and Admins. Note: If a student launches this link, they will encounter an error.

3. Practice Test:

   • A grade item must be added to the Gradebook. In Brightspace, this can be done automatically or manually, but either way, will require a bit of configuration.

     • Automatic – the first time a grade is passed from the tool to Brightspace, a gradebook column and item association will automatically be created. From there, you can edit the details (point values, due dates, availability, etc) by navigating to Grades → Manage Grades, and clicking the new item.

       • Note: You can force the grade item creation by viewing the course as a Student, opening the CMP Practice Test, completing a few questions, and then clicking Finish Practice Test at the bottom of the question navigation pane on the left of the test. Within a minute or so, the grade column should appear with the Test Student’s grade in it.

     • Manual – alternatively, you can navigate to Grades → Manage Grades, click the New button in the upper left, and select Item. Configure the fresh grade item as desired, and then navigate back to the Practice Test link in the course itself. Click the item to launch the test, and under Assessment at the bottom right of the Practice Test’s Brightspace page (not the CertMaster Practice frame), select the grade item you created from the dropdown, and click Save to create the association to the gradebook column you created.

Note: The Practice Test activity is also available to the student in the Learner Dashboard; however, grades will only pass to the Brightspace gradebook if the student entered the platform from the Practice Test link. As a result, you may want to add restrictions, such as restricting visibility on the Learner Dashboard until after the student has received a grade on the Practice Test, allowing them to review and continue studying. This will limit student (and staff) confusion.

Creating a Grade Item (Manually)

After creating and configuring the grade item, navigate back to the Practice Test itself, and associate it to the grade item you created, by selecting it from the dropdown and clicking Save.
