Below are some common issues and their recommended fixes for LMS integrations with CompTIA's CertMaster Learn and combined CertMaster Learn and Labs products released in 2023 and prior.
When I click an integration link, it shows me a login screen. I thought the integration handled user login automatically?
LTI links to CertMaster Learn and Labs content (2023 and prior) must be set to open in a new window/tab for the Single Sign-on (SSO) part of the LTI process to function properly. Seeing a login page almost always means you have it set to embed directly in your LMS, which will interfere with both SSO and grade syncing. If this is the issue, you'll see your LMS's navigation bars above and/or to the side of the CompTIA login page.
All items must be set to open in a new tab. Some LMSes (like Moodle and D2L Brightspace) have settings in the LTI tool configuration that will set this automatically any time a link is placed from that tool. Other LMSes (like Canvas and Blackboard), require you to go into the link settings for each item in your course and set each to open in a new tab one by one. If you're not sure which applies to you (or if you still see a login screen after setting it to open in a new tab), please reach out to your CompTIA LMS Integration specialist and ask what needs to be done in your case.
My grades aren't syncing to my LMS gradebook. How do I fix it?
LTI grade passback has many moving parts, and there are many potential points of failure. Here are some of those, roughly in order of most common to least common. Please go through and confirm these items are in order before submitting a ticket.
(Note that different LMSes may have different terminology -- we've tried to include the terms for the most common issues here, but you may need to consult your LMS's documentation for the comparable term for yours.)
- All LTI links must be set to open in a new tab/window.
- For Moodle and D2L Brightspace, this is set in the LTI tool configuration.
- For Canvas and Blackboard, this must be set for each individual course item.
- The user must be enrolled in the LMS course as a Student/Learner. (If the user doesn't have a row in the LMS gradebook, no grade will return.)
- Both your LMS course and the LTI link/activity/assignment must be published/active/available
- Both your LMS course and the LTI link/activity/item must be within their start/end dates
- Your LTI Tool configuration must be set to allow gradebook column management and/or have Assignment and Grade Services (AGS) fully enabled.
