Platform: Schoology
Prerequisites
If you don't have an LMS integration with CompTIA already set up
- Read through our introduction article and open a LMS Setup Ticket with CompTIA.
- Your LMS Admin works with our team to install the App for your Organization.
Installing and Configuring the App in your Course
- If your integration tool is newly installed, wait one hour before attempting to install/add content. Schoology takes time to propagate the configuration through its system, and errors can appear.
- In the bottom left of your course, select Install Your App(s)
- Select CertMaster LTI Adv and click Submit
- In the Course Options dropdown on the left, select External Tools.
- Click CertMaster LTI Adv, and simply click Submit in the dialogue box that pops up, leaving all fields blank. LTI 1.3 does not require a Key/Secret.
- It may seem odd, but this does prevent later integration issues.
- Return to your course. Click Grade Setup on the left.
- In Categories, choose a default grade category you'd like the links to associate to and Star it. This is required for Grade Passback to function. If you don't use categories, create one and Star it.
Placing Links into your Course
1. As a teacher or admin user, navigate to the desired course in Schoology.
2. On the Materials tab, click Add Materials > and select the installed Tool name (CertMaster LTI Adv in this case):
3. Click Course Resources:
4. Search for and select the desired product.
- If your institution purchases license pools or uses Usage-based Billing, you can check Only show institution licensed products to show only the products that have been set up for those purchase methods.
Please note the different CertMaster product types, and only select one for any given certification line you wish to place into your course. Not every Certification offers every product, though almost all of them do.
- Learn (and TestOut Pro): The base-level product. Contains reading content, interactives, quizzes, simulation-based Labs, as well as Assessments and Practice Exams.
- Labs: Supplementary product that contains Virtual-Machine-based Labs that allow students to practice in a full version of the operating system in question. Only available for products released in 2024 and after.
- Perform: The flagship product. Contains all of the above. Only available for products released in 2024 and after.
5. Select desired resources for which you would like to create links. You can optionally select and include a Last Location link.
6. Click Continue.
7. De-select resources for which you would not like a grade/score to be returned to your Learning Management System (LMS). Click Create Links.
8. Confirm that the desired links were created in Schoology.
NOTE: Due to a Schoology issue, learning resource index numbers are sometimes displayed out of order, most often when adding 10 or more links at a time. Please confirm they appear in the order you desire.
