As part of our ongoing efforts to improve your experience with CompTIA certifications, we are introducing a change in how we reference exams in the new CompTIA store. This article will help you understand the difference between exam codes and product versions, explain what’s changing, and provide guidance on how this impacts you.
What Are Exam Codes and Product Versions?
- Exam Codes:
Exam codes are unique identifiers that map directly to the certification exams delivered through Pearson VUE. For example:- The A+ Core 1 exam is identified by the code 220-1201.
- The A+ Core 2 exam is identified by the code 220-1202.
These codes are essential when scheduling exams with Pearson VUE and are directly tied to the certification objectives.
- Product Versions:
Product versions are internal identifiers used in the CompTIA store to represent the version of a certification product. These versions are not tied to Pearson VUE exam codes but instead indicate the specific iteration of the learning materials, bundles, or resources available for purchase.
For example:- A+ Version 15 refers to the latest version of the A+ learning materials and vouchers.
What’s Changing?
In the new CompTIA store, we are transitioning from displaying exam codes to displaying product versions. This change is designed to streamline the purchasing. However, this means that the product version displayed in the store will no longer directly reference the Pearson VUE exam code.
For example:
- In the old store, you might have seen a reference to 220-1201 for the A+ Core 1 exam.
- In the new store, you will see a product version such as A+ Version 15 instead.
How Does This Impact You?
- Scheduling Exams:
When scheduling your certification exam with Pearson VUE, you will still need to use the exam code (e.g., 220-1201 for A+ Core 1). The product version displayed in the store does not replace the exam code for scheduling purposes. - Purchasing Products:
When purchasing learning materials or bundles from the CompTIA store, you will now see the product version instead of the exam code. This version reflects the most up-to-date resources aligned with the certification objectives.
