Note: The following requires that you have an LMS integration with CompTIA already configured in your Canvas instance. See our article Is LMS Integration right for my organization? for more information on how to get started.
-
There are two ways to add links to your Canvas course -- through the Modules view, which will create both a module item and an Assignment, and directly to the Assignments list without creating a module item
-
In the Modules view, the CM Practice LTI Adv tool can be found in the three-dot menu of a Module's title bar.
- In the Assignments view, the CM Practice LTI Adv tool can be found in the three-dot menu to the right of the +Assignment button.
- If you'd like to add assignments to a specific Assignment Group, move that Group to the top of the list by either dragging it by the handle, or clicking the three-dot menu in the Group's title bar, selecting 'Move Group', and selecting 'At the top'.
-
- Select the desired certification from the list.
-
Select the item(s) you wish to place into the Module.
-
Canvas will process the selected items into grade sync'd Canvas Assignments automatically.
-
CertMaster Practice items will not function embedded into Canvas, so you must configure all items to open in a new tab. To do this, navigate to each Assignment's settings by clicking the item, then clicking the Edit Assignment Settings button in the upper right. Then scroll down to the Submission Type section and check the box to ‘Load This Tool In A New Tab’.
- The Learner Dashboard link is ungraded, and can be set to load in a new tab through its three-dot menu in the Modules view.

Grade Syncing
Note that due to the nature of the smaller CertMaster Practice modules – taking the user through each question multiple times until they ‘master’ them – completion of a module implies a grade of 100%. Only Practice Exams will return a performance-based grade of 0-100.
Our tools utilize LTI 1.3’s Advantage Services, including AGS, which allows grades to automatically pass from our platform to the LMS gradebook as they’re scored. There are two requirements for this process to happen properly in CertMaster Practice, and provided they're met, grades will return to the LMS gradebook within seconds of completion.
- There cannot be multiple Canvas assignments associated with the same piece of graded content in a single Canvas course.
- All LTI Advantage Services settings in the Canvas App or Developer Key configuration that are related to the gradebook must be switched on. If you followed our configuration documentation, this will already have been done for you, but it is possible for an LMS Admin to switch it back off after the fact.
