LMS Integration: Adding the Course Assignments Menu placement to Canvas

Note: This article assumes you already have a CompTIA or TestOut LTI Advantage tool fully configured in your system. If you do not, please see Is LMS Integration right for my organization? for more information on how to get started.

In Q4 2025, CompTIA's LTI 1.3 integration began supporting the Course Assignments Menu placement in Canvas, allowing course-builders to place assignments directly into Canvas' Assignments page without also creating corresponding module items. If your integration was set up before then, this article will tell you how your Canvas Admin can enable this functionality on your existing integration.

1. As a Canvas Admin, click the Admin icon in the left navigation bar, and navigate to Accounts -> Select the root account -> Apps in the left nav bar -> Manage tab
2. Find the CertMaster LTI Adv app in the list, click the three-dot menu to the right, and click Edit App.
   
   
3. Click Next through the dialogue until you get to the Placements page.
4. Check the box for Course Assignments Menu, and click Next.
   
   
    
5. On the next page, find the Course Assignments Menu section (it should be at the top), and configure it as follows:
   • Select LtiDeepLinkingRequest
   • Enter the following in Override URI:
     • https://cdn.platform.comptia.org/lms-gate/index.html
       
6. Click Next through the next few screens. When it changes to Update App, click it one final time.
   • Note: Canvas often takes time to propagate changes to App configurations. If you don't immediately see the placement available in your course, please give it 15-30 minutes, refresh the page, and try again.
