You have the convenience of testing from home or your office. During the check-in process, you’ll be asked to take photos of your testing space, which will be reviewed by a proctor before your exam begins.
Important: If your testing space does not meet the required standards during the room scan, you will not be allowed to proceed with the exam, and your exam fee may be forfeited.
For more details, we recommend reviewing Pearson VUE’s All-Inclusive OnVUE Guide to Taking Your Online Exam.
Testing Space Requirements
To ensure a smooth testing experience, prepare your environment ahead of time. Your testing space should meet the following criteria:
- Private: Choose an enclosed space where you won’t be disturbed. Make sure no one can enter or pass through the room during your exam. Avoid testing near windows or glass partitions to prevent others from viewing your screen.
- Quiet: Background noise can distract proctors and interfere with your exam session.
- Free from interruptions: Let others in your household know you’ll be taking an exam and cannot be disturbed until it’s complete.
- Well-lit: Ensure your testing space is well-lit so the proctor can clearly see you and your surroundings. Avoid sitting in front of windows or strong light sources that could create visibility issues.
- Cleared of personal and preparatory items: Your desktop should be clean and free of items such as books, notepads, sticky notes, papers, pens, pencils, or any other writing tools. Additional monitors and computers must be unplugged and turned off. Items on the wall with writing, such as whiteboards, should be erased or covered.
Mobile Phone Policy
You may keep your mobile phone nearby but out of arm’s reach during the exam in case the proctor needs to contact you. However, any use of your phone outside of speaking with the proctor will result in your exam being revoked.
- If the proctor needs to reach you, they will call—not text. The call will come from 617-379-0635, and the caller ID may display as “Pearson VUE.” Please answer the call if you see this number.
- If your phone rings and the call is not from Pearson VUE, do not answer it.
- If you receive a text or other notification, ignore it and continue testing. If you need to silence your phone, let the proctor know so they are aware you are only accessing your phone to silence notifications.
By preparing your testing space in advance and following these guidelines, you’ll set yourself up for a successful and stress-free exam experience. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out—we’re here to help!
