The LTI 1.3 Integration supports Canvas' Course Copy, Export, and Import functionality, and LTI links in copied or imported courses will continue to function as expected. However, there are a few things to be aware of:
- Course copies/imports will create a new Class in CertMaster the first time an integration link is launched from the copied/imported course.
-
The copied/imported course must be within the hierarchy of a sub-account or account that a CertMaster LTI Adv tool was installed to in Part 2 of our Canvas LTI 1.3 with Advantage - Installing via Canvas Apps.
- Note: If a course is being moved from a sub-account with one CertMaster LTI Adv deployment to a sub-account with a different one (for example, a community college system's Canvas that has a separate deployment for each school), the CertMaster Class and users that are created for the copied/imported course will appear in the CertMaster Institution associated with the destination sub-account's integration, not the original's.
- If both courses have the same name, and the original already has an associated course in CertMaster, it will be difficult to tell which course is which once the new one is launched, so it's recommended to rename the new one. If you wish to rename the original instead, this must also be done inside CertMaster, as titles do not update in CertMaster when they are updated in Canvas.
- Blueprint courses need to have content set to Unlocked in the blueprint course settings when the blueprint course is synced, or grade sync issues are likely to occur in the blueprinted course.
A note about moving courses and grade sync
Reassigning courses from one account/sub-account to another in the course settings in Canvas (rather than copying/importing) can carry risks to integration functionality. The course's new sub-account must be under the hierarchy of the tool that created the links in that course in order for grade sync to continue to function. If you assign it to a sub-account outside the scope of that tool, grades will stop syncing. If you assign it to a sub-account outside of the scope of any CertMaster tool, the links won't launch at all.
This occurs most commonly when:
- Courses are built in a sub-account dedicated to course development, and then moved to the sub-account where they're meant to live, but that sub-account falls outside of the scope of the integration tool.
- A course used in one school's sub-account is copied to another school in that Canvas. Even if the destination sub-account has its own integration, the grade sync process will be looking for the original tool.
Again, copying/importing courses to another sub-account don't generally carry this risks, but simply moving them can.
