CompTIA is committed to protecting the privacy and personal information of all learners, especially minors. To strengthen this commitment and ensure compliance with global privacy regulations, CompTIA has partnered with PRIVO, a leading provider of child privacy and consent management solutions.
PRIVO enables CompTIA to securely and automatically collect Verifiable Parental Consent (VPC) for learners under the age of 18 before they engage with CompTIA’s learning and certification platforms.
What Is PRIVO?
PRIVO is a trusted third-party privacy solutions provider that specializes in helping organizations protect children’s data online.
PRIVO is an FTC-approved COPPA Safe Harbor organization, meaning its platform meets the strict requirements of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Through PRIVO’s platform, parents or legal guardians can securely:
- Review how a minor’s information may be collected and used
- Grant or decline consent
- Manage ongoing consent
Information collected for verification is used only for consent and adult verification purposes and is handled securely.
Why Has CompTIA Implemented PRIVO?
CompTIA implemented PRIVO to ensure that minors can safely and compliantly access CompTIA products and services while meeting legal and regulatory requirements worldwide.
Key benefits include:
- Protecting learner privacy: Ensuring minors’ data is handled responsibly and securely
- Regulatory compliance: Supporting compliance with COPPA and other global child data privacy regulations
- Automated consent collection: Replacing manual or in-person consent processes with a streamlined digital experience
- Consistency and trust: Providing a standardized framework that parents, institutions, and partners can rely on
- Reduced administrative burden: Eliminating the need for schools, instructors, or test centers to manage consent processes directly
Who Does PRIVO Apply To?
PRIVO applies to learners who are identified as minors (under the age of 18) within CompTIA’s ecosystem.
When a user creates or accesses a CompTIA account, they are prompted to confirm their birth month and year. If the user is identified as a minor, parental or legal guardian consent is required before access is granted.
How Does PRIVO Support Minors and Families?
PRIVO provides a secure and guided consent process that allows parents or legal guardians to:
- Review the features and services CompTIA offers to minors
- Understand what data may be collected and how it is used
- Verify their identity as a legal adult
- Grant, decline, revoke, or request deletion of consent
Parents and guardians retain meaningful control over their child’s access and data, including the ability to revoke consent at any time.
When Will This Change Take Effect?
CompTIA plans to launch the PRIVO integration in June 2026, ahead of the next academic school year.
As part of the rollout:
- All users will be asked to confirm their age
- Verifiable parental consent (VPC) will be required for users identified as minors
- Additional guidance and resources will be provided to support schools, educators, parents, and students
