This article covers potential reasons that a Custom Quiz may not appear on the list presented in the LTI 1.3 Content Selector.
Custom Quiz has not been built yet
The LTI tool only allows you to create links to Custom Quizzes that have already been built inside the CertMaster platform ahead of time. (See more information in Creating and Managing Custom Quizzes in CertMaster.)
Once it's created, it should appear as an option within the Custom Quizzes section of the LTI Content Selector under the instructor who created it.
Instructor name is missing from the Instructor dropdown
If an instructor's name isn't on the list at all, this means there is not a user of that name with the Instructor role in your CertMaster institution. If an instructor insists they have an instructor account and built a quiz, it could be they have a duplicate account associated to another institution, especially if they logged in manually rather than through an LTI link.
Have them click one of the LTI links in the LMS course, which will either create them a new instructor account, and will likely offer to merge it with their existing account if the email matches. Either way, they'll likely need to rebuild their quiz, as quizzes are associated to both users and institutions, so if they built it under another institution, it will still not appear on your list in the LTI tool until they rebuild it under yours.
Instructor name is grayed out, or the instructor is selectable, but the desired quiz doesn't appear
A grayed out instructor can indicate that the instructor hasn't built any custom quizzes, but it can also indicate that the quizzes the instructor built aren't valid -- either for integration, or for the specific LMS course the LTI content selector is being launched from. So what makes a Custom Quiz valid or invalid?
Custom Quiz cannot have only custom questions
Custom Quizzes allow you to place your own custom questions alongside questions pulled from CompTIA products. However, in order to work through the integration, a custom quiz cannot be entirely composed of these custom questions. A quiz must have at least one question or lab from a CompTIA product in order to appear in the LTI tool.
Custom Quiz questions' product version conflicts with the CertMaster Class's product version
Our LTI tool enforces that an LMS class only be able to link materials from a single version of each of our products, as mixing and matching can lead to severe technical issues.
Case #1: New version release
Let's say the new version of Microsoft Office Pro (9.0) just released, and an instructor has already built a fresh LMS course for it per CompTIA best practices. Then, they attempt to add a link to an existing quiz that they built last year for version 8.1, since most of the questions still apply. In this case, the old version of the quiz will not appear in the content selector when launched from that LMS course, and the instructor will need to build a new custom quiz using questions from the new version of the product.
This goes both ways -- if an instructor in a course tied to Office Pro 8.1 tried to find a quiz built with the newer questions from 9.0, that quiz would not appear.
Case #2: Pro-to-Learn migration course conflict
As CompTIA continues to consolidate the TestOut Pro product line with the CompTIA CertMaster product line after the two companies merged, some of the TestOut Pro courses are being migrated to a CertMaster Learn course of the same topic. For example, PC Pro has been migrated to CertMaster Learn for A+ Core 1 and Core 2.
These migrations are treated identically to a version release, and so they run into the same situation as Case #1. A custom quiz created with PC Pro questions will not appear in the content selector if the tool is launched from an LMS already associated to CertMaster Learn for A+ Core and Core 2, and vice versa.
