There are a wide variety of CE activities you can complete to accumulate the required number of continuing education units (CEUs) to renew your CompTIA certification(s). To earn CEUs toward the renewal of your CompTIA certification, you can complete any combination of these multiple CE activities to earn the total number of CEUs you need.
General CE Activity Information and Requirements
- In general 1 hour = 1 CEU for valid CE activities. (Work experience is 3 CEUs per year.)
- All CE activities must be completed within your three-year renewal period to be valid for CEUs.
- At least 50 percent of the course content must relate to one or more of the exam objectives for the certification you’re renewing. It is important to keep in mind that CompTIA does not only look at content “topics” to determine whether a course relates to exam objectives.
Download the Exam Objectives for the certification you're renewing to confirm your CE activity meets this requirement. - You must submit the required documentation as evidence you completed the CE activity for CEUs (e.g., certificate of completion, course description, etc.).

- See Additional IT Industry Certifications to learn how many CEUs you can earn by achieving additional non-CompTIA IT industry certifications.
