Note: If your integration was configured before June 2024, your tool title may use ‘LabSim’ or ‘TestOut’ instead of ‘CertMaster’
Steps
1. When a graded assignment link is created using the Advantage tool, a Canvas grade book column is also created.
2. When a student clicks on a link and completes a CertMaster resource, that score will be transferred to Canvas within 1-2 minutes.
3. If a student stays within CertMaster and completes additional assignments that have accompanying assignment links created in the Canvas course, those scores will be automatically transferred to Canvas within 1-2 minutes.
4. The highest earned score will be passed to Canvas. If your school wants to receive the most recent score in your Canvas grade book, please contact your CompTIA representative.
Score Return Q&A
Q: How are the highest or most recent grades/scores from CertMaster passed back to Canvas?
A: As a student completes and scores a CertMaster assignment or exam, this triggers an action to determine if a score is the highest or latest grade/score (depending on your school's preferences). If the criteria are met, the score is sent to Canvas using LTI Advantage Assignment and Grade Services (AGS).
Q: How are grades/scores sent to CertMaster when it is after the assignment due date as defined in Canvas?
A: Our tool does not currently recognize Assignment due dates, as we rely on the LMS to handle grades it receives properly. We do, however, respect the course offering start/end dates and will not send scores outside of these.
Q: If a student retakes the assignment and receives a better grade, is a new grade is passed back upon completion?
A: Depending on your school setting in our CertMaster database, yes. The default is that the HIGHEST grade is sent. If your school has LATEST grade return set, then any further attempts would overwrite the previous attempt.
Q: In cases where a student started an assignment but did not complete it, does a grade get passed back, and when?
A: We don’t send a 0 for work never attempted. However, if a student starts but does not complete a timed activity, the activity will be scored and send that score to the LMS if that activity's timer runs out. Notably, Virtual Machine labs (activities whose titles start with "Assisted Lab" or "Applied Lab") will send a 0 back if ended early or canceled.
