Lab Durations
Each lab activity in CertMaster Labs has a maximum time that learners can take to complete the task. This duration is set by CompTIA and cannot be modified by students or instructors.
How much time do I have to complete each lab?
The maximum amount of time plus extensions will equal to 150% of the allocated duration. For example, if the lab duration is set to 30 minutes, you will be notified when 10 minutes remain and you will be able to extend the lab for 15 more minutes. After 45 minutes, the lab will end automatically. If a lab times out, it will be submitted for grading and a score will be recorded.
What happens if I reach the maximum time allowed and I have not completed the lab?
If the maximum time is reached, the lab will be automatically submitted for grading and a score will be recorded. If you don’t pass, you may try again by refreshing your browser, launching a new lab instance, and working through the lab again.
Why is the planner timing different from the amount of lab duration?
The value set for lab instance duration is now the maximum amount of time available rather than an expectation of time to complete. Assisted Labs are designed to be 15 to 20 minutes and Applied Labs are designed to be 30 to 45 minutes. It is configured with a high margin to accommodate different learning styles. The planner timing is a guide for how much time to spend in the lab during a course event and as a target for self-study. For most labs, you should not need to use the maximum time allotted:
- Aim to complete assisted labs in 15 to 30 minutes.
- Aim to complete applied labs in 30 to 45 minutes.
