CompTIA periodically releases new versions of learning products to align with updated certification objectives and course content. This article explains what happens when a new version becomes available and how it affects your access.
Individual Learners
If you purchased an individual (B2C) learning product directly from CompTIA and your subscription is still active when a new version is released:
- You will automatically receive access to the new product version at no additional cost.
- Your subscription expiration date does not change. Your access to the new version lasts until your original subscription expires.
- You do not need to purchase the new version separately.
Example: You purchase Security+ SY0-701 with six months remaining on your subscription. If a new version is released during that time, you'll automatically receive access to the new version, but your subscription will still expire on its original expiration date.
Learners Enrolled in a Class
If you are enrolled in an instructor-led class:
- You will continue using the product version selected for your class.
- Your class will not automatically switch to a newer version after it is released.
- This helps ensure your coursework, labs, assignments, and instructor materials remain consistent throughout your course.

Instructors
When a new product version is released:
- Existing classes remain on their current product version.
- New classes can be created using the new product version.
- You choose which version is appropriate for your learners and curriculum.
This allows you to complete an active course without disrupting instruction.

Administrators can choose which product version is assigned when creating or managing classes.
This allows organizations to:
- Continue supporting existing classes using their current version.
- Transition to newer product versions when appropriate.
- Keep learners within the same class on a consistent version.

Do I automatically receive the new version?
Yes. Individual learners with an active subscription automatically receive access to newly released product versions.
Does my subscription start over when I receive the new version?
